I’ve recently gone back to a group of works on paper that started several years ago, which have remained as unframed studies. I’ve always liked the direct nature of these works, but felt that they lacked an element that made them more than studies of the landscape.
I’ve always been interested in the notion that landscape says something more than reflections of the picturesque but I’ve found it hard to express .
I’ve started combining these studies with text as a way of testing that idea.
